During the first quarter of 2026, Clarksville Health & Rehab Center emerged as Mecklenburg County’s largest nursing home, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) reported.

The facility reported 168 beds, which is 25 more than the county average for that period. On average, it cared for 135.5 residents daily during the quarter.

Clarksville Health & Rehab Center received a 4 out of 5 overall rating from the CMS, outpacing the statewide average rating of 3 given to Virginia nursing homes.

Twin Lakes Rehabilitation and Nursing ranked second in size, providing 140 available beds, while Chase City Health and Rehab Center followed with 120 beds.

Clarksville Health & Rehab Center accumulated $22,874 in fines and one penalty as of the first quarter of 2026.

There were two for-profit nursing homes total in Mecklenburg County, Virginia.

U.S. Census Bureau estimates show the nation’s population of older adults continues to rise as younger groups decline. Between 2020 and 2024, Americans aged 65 and older grew by 13%, while those under 18 decreased by 1.7%. Over the past century, the older adult demographic expanded from 4.9 million in 1920 to more than 61 million in 2024.

A study from 2021 found that roughly half of Americans in this age group, or about 28 million individuals, could need long-term services and support. The study also projects that more than a third may eventually need care in a nursing home.

“Living a long life is something that many of us want and could get,” said Jesse Slome, executive director of the American Association for Long-Term Care Insurance, an insurance education organization. “But when we live a long life, the chances of us needing long-term care increase exponentially. But when you need that type of care, there are limited options.”
