Dinwiddie County has partnered with the National Park Service to reopen and expand access to the Five Forks Visitors Center and Park. This initiative aims to enhance heritage tourism and historical education in the area. The agreement, finalized in May after extensive planning, seeks to increase community engagement at this significant historical site.
The Five Forks Visitors Center is located at a key Civil War battle site. It will have a soft launch throughout July, culminating in a grand reopening on August 1, 2025. This event will also start the First Friday’s series, which will run monthly from May through September. The series includes special programming and activities for families and visitors.
Quinell Henderson, Director of Parks & Recreation, expressed pride in revitalizing Five Forks for both locals and tourists. “Our team will be on-site to welcome guests, share the story of this historic battlefield, and ensure the Visitor Center is a hub of learning and engagement,” Henderson said.
County Administrator W. Kevin Massengill highlighted the partnership’s role in preserving history while offering educational experiences. The center is located at 9840 Courthouse Road, Dinwiddie, VA, open Friday through Monday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., with extended hours on First Fridays.
