Dinwiddie County has been included on a list of sanctuary jurisdictions by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. The county officials have expressed their disagreement with this designation and have reached out to the Office of Homeland Security for clarification.

The list’s preparatory statement mentions, “Each jurisdiction listed will receive formal notification of its non-compliance with Federal statutes.” However, Dinwiddie County has not received any such notice.

In response, the Dinwiddie County Board of Supervisors said that they have never declared the county as a sanctuary jurisdiction. They emphasized their respect and appreciation for all levels of law enforcement, including Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

The county reaffirmed its commitment to lawful and transparent operations, prioritizing the safety and well-being of all residents.
