The eastbound left lane on the East Wythe Street Bridge in the 300 block near I-95 will remain closed as a result of ongoing bridge replacement work at Lieutenant’s Run. City officials say repeated flooding has led to significant erosion in the affected lane, creating unsafe conditions for drivers. The bridge typically carries about 14,000 vehicles daily.
City authorities estimate that designing and replacing the bridge will be a lengthy process with an expected cost of $11 million. To help finance the project, the city is seeking grant funding.
According to officials, the new structure will feature stormwater management systems and enhanced roadway safety measures, aiming to create a more resilient and secure route for travelers. Detour signage will be posted in key locations to direct traffic during construction.
“The City appreciates the public’s patience and cooperation as we work to replace the bridge,” according to city representatives.
