The Office of the Clerk of Circuit Court for the City of Petersburg announced on Mar. 23 the launch of VADeed Alert, a free notification service designed to help property owners protect themselves from deed fraud.

The initiative is intended to address growing concerns about unauthorized changes or filings involving property deeds. By alerting residents whenever a document is recorded in local land records that matches their name or Tax Map/Parcel ID number, VADeed Alert aims to provide early warning signs of potentially fraudulent activity.

“Deed fraud is a growing concern nationwide,” said the Honorable Maytee E. Parham, Petersburg’s Clerk of Circuit Court. “VADeed Alert gives property owners a simple and effective way to stay informed and take quick action if something doesn’t look right.”

While the service does not stop documents from being recorded or verify their legality, it offers an extra layer of awareness for property owners. Users who receive alerts can review activity related to their properties and contact the clerk’s office or seek legal advice if necessary.

Key features include free enrollment for all Virginia property owners, email notifications, and monitoring by name, business name, or Tax Map/Parcel ID number. Registration can be completed online in just a few minutes at https://risweb.vacourts.gov/VADeedAlert/#/login.

Residents with questions about VADeed Alert or local land records are encouraged to contact the Petersburg Circuit Court Clerk’s Office by phone at (804) 733-2367 or via email at petersburgcc@vacourts.gov.
