Amelia County ranked 37th in state for resident earnings in 2017

Amelia County ranked 37th among counties in Virginia by annual earnings per resident, according to data obtained from the U.S. Census Bureau in August.

The median income of Amelia County residents was an inflation-adjusted $29,872 per year. Amelia County had 4,699 households in 2017, with a population of 12,802.

The county with the highest median resident income in the state was Arlington County. Arlington County's median income was $64,686 per year after adjusting for inflation – $34,814 more than Amelia County. It had 102,310 households in 2017 and a population of 229,534.

Sussex County had the lowest annual resident income among counties in Virginia, with a median income of only $16,191 per year. That was $13,681 less than the median income in Amelia County at the time. Sussex County had 3,388 households in 2017 and a population of 11,595.
