Bon Secours Southern Virginia Medical Center issued the following announcement on Dec. 3
The season of giving is here! While presents are always great, sometimes the biggest gift you can give is your time by giving back in your community.
At Bon Secours, we are proud to offer wonderful opportunities for community members to volunteer and assist in our hospitals. Volunteering with our ministry provides a unique experience filled with fellowship, camaraderie and the satisfaction of providing good help to those in need.
Melony (pictured above) is one of Bon Secours Maryview Medical Center’s newest hospitality volunteer. She felt called to volunteer in health care and give back to her community after seeing the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. We are excited to have her joining our team as she has such a strong impact on our patients and their families. Our inpatient units consider Melony to be part of their patient care team.
What is a hospitality volunteer?
A hospitality volunteer is a customer service-oriented individual who strives to ensure patients and their families have an excellent experience while receiving care.
Our new hospitality volunteer program at Maryview Medical Center is all about going the extra mile for our patients. Our volunteers will be rounding with comfort items, birthday cards, brochures, get well soon cards from local schools and more! Plus, they’re a friendly face and an empathetic listener to our patients who may be going through a tough time.
Opportunities as hospitality volunteer include:
- Hospitality cart rounding
- “Get well soon” card distribution
- “Thank you” card distribution
- Patient birthday celebrations
- Friendly visiting and empathetic listening to patients and their caregivers
