Hampden-Sydney College Athletic Department issued the following announcement on Feb. 4
Hampden-Sydney College has been picked third in the 2022 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Men's Lacrosse Preseason Coaches Poll. The Tigers, ranked 17th nationally in the Inside Lacrosse Preseason Men's DIII Top 20, garnered 81 points for third among the 11 schools. H-SC finished 12-3 overall a year ago, including 8-1 in the ODAC, earning the No. 3 seed for the ODAC Tournament while advancing to the tournament semifinals.
The University of Lynchburg, the defending ODAC Tournament Champion, was picked first with 100 points and earned 10 first-place votes. Washington and Lee University was picked second with 91 points and had the other first-place vote, while followed in the poll by H-SC (81), Roanoke College (70), Randolph-Macon College (62), Bridgewater College (59), Shenandoah University (46), Guilford College (34), Virginia Wesleyan University (32), Ferrum College (20) and Randolph College (10).
"The ODAC is traditionally one of the top lacrosse conferences nationally and this year will be no different," said sixth-year head coach Jason Rostan '03. "We feel the league will be even more competitive from top to bottom in '22 than it has ever been, and wins will truly have to be earned each time out. Our coaching staff is excited about the character and hardworking attitude of this year's team and we look forward to the opportunities ahead as we strive for an ODAC Championship at year's end."
H-SC returns 33 lettermen this spring, including senior defender Grayson Ackaway (Virginia Beach), senior attackman Bobby Clagett (Brandywine, MD), senior midfielder Sean Duffy (Ambler, PA), senior defender Henry Hitt (Annapolis, MD), senior midfielder Presley Miller (Annapolis, MD), junior defender Nick Morgan (Issaquah, WA) and senior goalkeeper Will Perry (Roanoke). Ackaway posted six goals and 23 ground balls last spring. Clagett had 11 goals and six assists. Duffy is the leading returning scorer from 2021 after posting 24 goals and four assists. Hitt had two goals and 24 ground balls. Miller contributed two goals, four assists and 15 caused turnovers. Morgan, recently named a preseason Honorable Mention All-American by Inside Lacrosse, totaled four goals, two assists, 32 ground balls and 24 caused turnovers. Perry played 631 minutes and posted a 9.70 goals against average with 114 saves.
Coach Rostan is aided this year by sixth-year assistant coach Billy Cameron and first-year volunteer assistant coach Paul Amos '92.
H-SC will open the season at home against non-conference opponent Southern Virginia University on Saturday, February 19, at 1 p.m. at Lewis C. Everett Stadium
