Hampden-Sydney Falls In Series Finale To Visiting Moravian (PA) 1-0

103

Junior Owen Tappy (Charlotte, NC) pitched his first collegiate complete game with a career-high nine strikeouts, but Hampden-Sydney College dropped a 1-0 non-conference baseball decision at home to Moravian (PA) University on Sunday on Yank Bernier Field at the Ty Cobb Ballpark – Wurdeman Stadium. Tappy (0-1) went the 9.0-inning distance, scattering nine hits with only one walk to go along with his nine strikeouts. Senior captain Max Lipscomb (Virginia Beach) collected two of the three hits for the host Tigers (2-1) against the visiting Greyhounds (1-2), whose two pitchers combined for the shutout and yielded just three hits with six strikeouts and one walk.

H-SC had three hits with no errors. MU scored one run on nine hits with two errors … scoring the lone run of the game in the first inning, getting three consecutive singles after Tappy recorded two outs to begin the contest.

H-SC did load the bases with one out in the seventh inning as Lipscomb (2-3) and senior captain Trey Karnes (Mechanicsville) (1-3) were each hit by a pitch and freshman Christian Chambers (Midlothian) (0-3) drew a walk. Unfortunately, a strikeout and a ground out ended the late threat by the Tigers.

H-SC is scheduled to play on the road at non-conference opponent Averett University on Tuesday, February 22, at 3 p.m. in Danville. Please be sure to check our website at hscathletics.com for the latest weather-related schedule adjustments.
