DESCRIPTION
A total lunar eclipse occurs when the Moon passes completely through the Earth's dark shadow, or umbra. During this type of eclipse, the Moon will gradually get darker and then take on a rusty or blood red color. The eclipse will be visible throughout all of North America, Greenland, the Atlantic Ocean, and parts of western Europe and western Africa. The total eclipse will be visible from the Observation Field in the park. Penumbral eclipse will begin May 15 at 9:32 p.m. Full eclipse begins May 15 at 10:27 p.m. Maximum eclipse occurs May 16 at 12:11 a.m. Penumbral eclipse ends May 16 2:50 a.m. There will not be a ranger present at this event, it is self guided.
