The Hampden-Sydney College cross country team opened the 2022 campaign with a fourth-place finish at the EMU Heritage Invitational hosted by Eastern Mennonite University on Friday evening in Harrisonburg. Sophomore Kade Minton (Wytheville) led the Tigers with his 5K time of 17:51.5 to place 15th among 45 runners. Roanoke College won the five-team race, while Dylan May of Southern Virginia University was the individual winner with a time of 16:11.3.
Minton was followed by junior Carter Burcham (Rockville) (18:22.1, 21st), freshman Winston Ransone (Midlothian) (18:46.5, 29th), senior Justin Stimpson (Farmville) (19:13.0, 31st), senior Taisho Miller (Stuart, FL) (20:16.6, 37th), freshman Tommy Bennett (Winston-Salem, NC) (21:15.0, 41st) and senior Ryan Haynie (Richmond) (23:29.6, 45th). It was a collegiate-best 5K time for Miller, while it was the first time that Minton, Ransone and Bennett ran a collegiate 5K cross country race.
H-SC will race again at the Lancer Pink Invitational, an 8K event hosted by nearby NCAA Division I member Longwood University, on Saturday, September 10, at 10:45 a.m. in Farmville.
