Millennium Surgery Center Will Offer High-Quality Care

Millennium Surgery Center Will Offer High-Quality Care

We are excited to share that, along with Compass Surgical Partners, we will be breaking ground on a new ambulatory surgery center in our Greenville market this fall.

“The main thing you should be excited about is you’re going to get extremely good, high-quality care for a substantially cheaper cost,” Jay Womack, MD, (pictured above, right) an orthopedic surgeon at Bon Secours Piedmont Orthopedics who will be utilizing the new space when it opens, explains.

That’s right – this new ambulatory surgery center is expected to be significantly less expensive for patients.

In fact, Dr. Womack says procedures done in ambulatory surgery centers are up to 40 percent cheaper than those done in the hospital setting. That’s one reason these types of health care facilities are becoming a growing trend across the country.

In addition to being more cost effective, these centers also provide convenience.

“There’s more than a need for this in Greenville County, S.C. – one of the fastest-growing places there is,” Dr. Womack adds. “It’s been a long time coming and will provide almost a fast track for people to get their care.”

The new Millennium Surgery Center, which will be located on the health care system’s Millennium campus along Innovation Drive in Greenville, will include six operating rooms and two procedure rooms. The extra real estate devoted to surgery will help prevent scheduling delays by increasing operating room availability. It will also give physicians increased control over their surgical practices.

“We have free reign to design it based on all the experience we have through the years, taking care of and operating on patients,” Dr. Womack says. “This will certainly be a patient-centered place with our goal being to create a layout that’s great for the patient and their family that comes with them for the procedure.”

The Millennium Surgery Center is expected to open at the end of 2023, offering orthopedic operations as well as ear, nose and throat (ENT) procedures.

“We estimate around 90 percent of orthopedic procedures and around 90 percent of current ENT cases done in Greenville can be done in this surgery center,” Dr. Womack shares.

Overall, this means increased options for the patients we serve.

“Patients always have a right to decide where their procedure is going to be done,” Dr. Womack adds. “However, the decision is sort of made for the patient, because if given the choice, people are going to choose something that’s better but costs less. And that’s really what this new site offers.”
