Board of Supervisors Public Hearings

The Cumberland County Board of Supervisors will meet on Tuesday, December 13, 2022, at 7:00 p.m., or as soon thereafter as may be heard, in the Circuit Courtroom of Cumberland County in Cumberland, Virginia, to conduct public hearings pursuant to Virginia Code Section 15.2-2204, which such hearings may be continued or adjourned, as required under applicable law, and to consider the following items and taking actions in furtherance thereof:Rezoning (REZ) 22-03:  Clark Properties – A request to rezone from A-2 to B-1.   The property is located at 1515 Cartersville Road, and is designated as tax map parcel 23-A-73; a 3.90-acre lot.   The property is not located in a growth area in the Comprehensive Plan and is within election district 1.Comprehensive Plan Amendment CP 22-01: Parks and Recreation Master Plan.  The Comprehensive Plan is the long-range plan for the physical development of the County. The Code of Virginia requires localities to adopt a comprehensive plan for the physical development of jurisdictions.  The proposed amendment will create, and add, a Parks and Recreation Master Plan to the existing Comprehensive Plan.  The purpose of the Parks and Recreation Master Plan is to strategically plan for future parks and recreation facilities and services.  The master plan is necessary to evaluate citizen demand for services versus current services provided, to guide planning for future facilities, and to support cost effective allocations of valuable County resources.Code Amendment (CA) 22-09:  Subdivision Ordinance Amendments – Proposes to amend chapter 54 of the Cumberland County Code to include the definition of a monument, remove the 800-foot maximum size limit for private roads, remove a requirement that all major subdivisions be developed as a cluster subdivision, revise language regarding final plat approvals, and other minor clerical updates including incorrect code references.Code Amendment (CA) 22-11:  Convenience and General Stores in Business Districts – Proposes to amend chapter 74 of the Cumberland County Code to permit Convenience Stores and General Stores as a by-right use in the B-1, Business District, and B-2, Business District Limited zones.Copies of the complete text of the proposed development applications, plans and amendments are available for public review at the office of the Cumberland County Planning Department, County Administration Building, 1 Courthouse Circle, Cumberland, Virginia between 8:30 am and 4:30 pm of each business day.  The public is invited to attend these hearings at which persons affected may appear and present their views orally or in writing.
