Purple Heart Community Designation

We are proud to announce that Charlotte County is now an official Purple Heart Community. This designation affirms that the county recognizes those in our community who gave their lives or were wounded in combat defending our American freedom. The Purple Heart, created by George Washington in 1782 as the Badge of Military Merit, was the first American service award made available to the common soldier. The Purple Heart is awarded to members of the U.S. Armed Forces who have been wounded or killed in combat with a declared enemy of the United States. Charlotte County has the deepest appreciation and respect for the men and women who have made great sacrifices in serving their nation and this county in the U.S. Armed Forces.

Representatives from Military Order of the Purple Heart, Chapter 1607 from Lynchburg attended the January 9th Charlotte County Board of Supervisors meeting to recognize the County’s designation as a Purple Heart Community.  Pictured are Supervisor Tony Reeves, Supervisor Butch Shook, and Supervisor Butch Hamlett with representatives from Chapter 1607 including Commander Clifton “Buck” Krantz, Otto Davis, Gary Witt, and Brian Moore (not pictured).
