In 2023-24 school year, Black students had highest representation in Nottoway County districts

Black students comprised the largest ethnic group in Nottoway County districts during the 2023-24 school year, according to reports from the Virginia Department of Education.

Of the 1,818 students attending Nottoway County district schools, 43.5% were Black. White made up the second largest ethnic group, comprising 37.1% of the student population.

In the previous school year, Black students were also the most common group in Nottoway County districts, representing 44.6% of the student body.

In the 2023-24 school year, the total number of students enrolled in the county increased by 0.4% compared to the previous year.

The main offices of all districts mentioned in the story are located in cities associated with Nottoway County.

As of November 2023, according to Public School Review, in the 2023-24 school year, Virginia public schools saw an average student-to-teacher ratio of approximately 1:14, which is better than the national average of 1:15 in public schools.
