On May 12, 2025, during a special community informational meeting, the YMCA of the Virginia Peninsulas presented findings from a market study conducted between September and October 2024. The study indicated a strong demand for YMCA services in the area.

The Board of Supervisors has authorized the county’s financial advisors to request proposals for interim financing of up to $5 million. This funding will support the preliminary planning and construction phase and is contingent upon approval by the Board.

In a significant development, the Surry County Board of Supervisors has approved a Development and Operations agreement with the YMCA of the Virginia Peninsulas. This decision marks progress toward realizing this project for the community.
