Twin Lakes Rehabilitation and Nursing ranked as Mecklenburg County’s second largest nursing home in the first quarter of 2026, based on data from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS).

The facility reported 140 available beds, which was three fewer than the county’s average during that quarter. On average, it served 99.1 residents during the period.

The CMS awarded Twin Lakes Rehabilitation and Nursing an overall rating of 3 out of 5, aligning with the statewide average for Virginia nursing homes.

Clarksville Health & Rehab Center was the county’s largest facility during the first quarter, offering 168 beds, while Chase City Health and Rehab Center came in third with 120 beds.

Records show that Twin Lakes Rehabilitation and Nursing received zero fines or penalties during the quarter ending in March 2026.

Only one non-profit nursing home operated in Mecklenburg County, Virginia, as of the first quarter of 2026.

U.S. Census Bureau estimates indicate that the older adult population in the United States is expanding, while numbers for younger age groups are shrinking. From 2020 to 2024, the 65-and-older population grew by 13%, as the population under age 18 declined by 1.7%. Over the past 100 years, the nation’s older adult population has dramatically increased, growing from 4.9 million in 1920 to more than 61 million in 2024.

A 2021 analysis projects that nearly half of Americans in this age range—about 28 million—may need long-term care and support. The report also suggests that more than one-third could eventually require nursing home care.

“Living a long life is something that many of us want and could get,” said Jesse Slome, executive director of the American Association for Long-Term Care Insurance. “But when we live a long life, the chances of us needing long-term care increase exponentially. But when you need that type of care, there are limited options.”
