On Friday, July 18, the distribution of Sun Bucks, a federally funded Summer Nutrition Supplement for children, commenced across Virginia. However, technical issues with the state’s EBT system affected the issuance of benefits to approximately 68,000 individuals.
The Virginia Department of Social Services (VDSS) is addressing these technical difficulties. “We are aware that some households did not receive their Virginia Sun Bucks benefits as scheduled,” said a spokesperson. VDSS teams are working to resolve the issue promptly and ensure all eligible recipients receive their benefits. “We apologize for any inconvenience and appreciate your patience.”
July 18 marks the earliest date for issuing Sun Bucks and SNAP EBT cards. The issuance will continue on a rolling basis, so households may receive their cards at different times.
