Ward 7 Councilman Arnold Westbrook, Jr. will host the National Night Out event on Tuesday, August 5, 2025, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Pleasants Lane Elementary School in Petersburg. The event is open to all residents.

The evening will feature participation from several city departments and organizations. The Petersburg Police Department will showcase its police canine unit. The Sheriff’s Office will provide free fingerprinting for school-aged children. Children can also interact with vehicles from the Petersburg Fire Department as part of a “Touch a Truck” activity.

Additional city involvement includes the Petersburg Planning Department offering opportunities for community input and visioning, and the Department of Social Services providing resources and information for families. Free art kits will be distributed by the Petersburg Arts Council to young attendees. Central Virginia Health Services will offer health awareness information and services.

Community service will also be represented by members of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., along with other local partners who plan to provide resources, games, and giveaways during the event.

Scheduled activities include a community exercise class at 5:00 PM and a line dance session at 6:00 PM.

“This is more than just an event—it’s a celebration of who we are.
Bring your family, your neighbors, and your best dance moves! Bring that Big 7th Ward Energy,” said organizers.
