Hampden-Sydney College issued the following announcement on Jan. 19
Dean Bowyer recently retired with the rank of colonel after a decorated 29-year career in the United States Army. In addition to his degree from Hampden-Sydney, Dean Bowyer holds a master’s degree in adult and continuing education from Kansas State University and a master’s degree in national security studies from the National War College in Washington, D.C.
Dean Bowyer recently participated in the Hiring Our Heroes Fellowship Program sponsored by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation, which places transitioning armed service members, veterans, military spouses, and military caregivers with employers who are committed to hiring them. During his fellowship, Dean Bowyer was placed at Hampden-Sydney, where he primarily worked with the Wilson Leadership Center.
“In his role as associate dean, Dean Bowyer will work with the student justice system, our Greek organizations, and collaboratively with campus partners on efforts to further the College’s mission by expanding leadership and character development opportunities for students,” says Dean of Students Richard Pantele ’13. “We are all very excited for the unique and wide breadth of experiences and knowledge that Dean Bowyer will bring to our students, the student life team, and the campus community.”
During his time as a student on the Hill, Dean Bowyer was president of Kappa Alpha Order, a member of Omicron Delta Kappa, a leader in the ROTC program, and an active member of the College Activities Council (CAC). He was also an All-American quarterback and captain of the Tiger Football team and was inducted into the Hampden-Sydney Athletic Hall of Fame in 2002.
