Hampden-Sydney College issued the following announcement on March 9

A rainy Wednesday could not put a damper on Hampden-Sydney College's offense, as the No. 18 Tigers cruised to a 18-3 non-conference win over Berry College (GA) at Hellmuth-Gibson Field.  Sr. Bobby Clagett (Brandywine, MD) and So. Ford Burke (Richmond, VA) each scored a game high four goals, with Burke also dishing out two assists.  Sr. Will Perry (Roanoke, VA) had another solid performance in net, saving eight shots, while only allowing two goals in the game.  The win is the second in a row for Hampden-Sydney and moves their record to 3-2 on the season.

Sr. Sean Duffy (Ambler, PA) put the Tigers on the board early in the 1st quarter and Hampden-Sydney never looked back.  Clagett and Burked scored back-to-back- goals, which would be the first of their 8 combined goals in the game.  The two continued their scoring in the 2nd period, while the Tigers' offense came alive with additional goals from Jr. Nick Morgan (Issaquah, WS), Duffy and Fr. Zach Hanzlik (Vienna, VA).

Highlights from the 3rd quarter included three straight goals from So. Ray O'Brien (Scituate, MA), while Perry held the Vikings to only one goal on five shots.  The 4th quarter saw three more goals as Jr. Talmadge Hope (Richmond, VA), Fr. Campion White (Apex, NC) and So. Luke Helfgott (Arlington, VA) each found the net, to round out the 18-3 win.

In addition to their 18 goals, Hampden-Sydney out shot Berry by a margin of 58-18, while also only committing 7 turnovers to the Vikings' 21.  They also held the ground ball advantage, 28-21 and converted of their man-up opportunity.

The Tigers will return to action on Saturday March 12th as they visit fellow ODAC foe, Washington & Lee University.  Start time is scheduled for 4:30pm in Lexington, VA.
