Hampden-Sydney Finishes Eighth At The Roanoke Invitational
The Hampden-Sydney College cross country team placed eighth at the Roanoke Invitational hosted by Roanoke College at Greenhill Park on Friday evening in Salem. Sophomore Kade Minton (Wytheville) led the Tigers with his 8K time of 27:33.0 to place 31st among 146 runners. NCAA Division I Radford University won the 17-team race, while Dylan May of Southern Virginia University was the individual winner with a time of 24:24.2.
Minton ran a season-best time that is also the 17th-best 8K effort in program history. He was followed by junior Carter Burcham (Rockville) (28:00.3, 40th), senior Justin Stimpson (Farmville) (29:33.4, 74th), freshman Winston Ransone (Midlothian) (29:33.7, 75th), senior Taisho Miller (Stuart, FL) (32:07.3, 103rd), freshman Tommy Bennett (Winston-Salem, NC) (33:17.7, 118th), junior Thomas Overton (Buffalo Junction) (34:40.1, 125th) and senior Ryan Haynie (Richmond) (34:47.6, 126th). Burcham, Stimpson, Ransone, Miller, Bennett, Overton and Haynie each ran season-best times for the distance.
H-SC will race again at the 2022 Old Dominion Athletic Conference Cross Country Championships on Saturday, October 29, at 11 a.m., the 8K race being hosted by Shenandoah University at the Kernstown Battlefield in Winchester.
