Hampden-Sydney Plays At No. 1 Randolph-Macon On Saturday At 5 p.m.

 Hampden-Sydney College plays on the road at archrival and nationally-ranked No. 1 Randolph-Macon College in non-conference basketball action on Saturday evening, November 19, at 5 p.m. in Crenshaw Gym in Ashland. The Tigers are 2-1 overall, while the top-ranked Yellow Jackets are also 2-1 overall. R-MC will provide a live video stream at rmcathletics.com.

Head Coach Caleb Kimbrough
H-SC is led by the fourth-year head coach who took over the program on April 4, 2019. The former head coach at Huntingdon College (AL) from 2016-19, Kimbrough is the 19th head coach in the 113-year history of the storied Hampden-Sydney program. He is no stranger to the ODAC, having played four years at Guilford (NC) College and coached six years with the Quakers, and one year at Washington and Lee University. Caleb is 32-29 overall at the College, including 17-19 in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) games.

Scouting Hampden-Sydney
The Tigers, getting votes in the D3hoops.com Preseason Top 25, won their most recent game at Franklin & Marshall (PA), 80-64, in the championship contest of the William Marshall Tip-Off Tournament on Nov. 12. The Tigers have three players averaging in double figures among six scoring at least 7.0 points per game. Junior forward Davidson Hubbard (Charlotte, NC) leads the balanced-scoring team with his 14.3 points, adding 7.7 rebounds and 1.3 blocks, followed by junior guard and team captain Adam Brazil (Mooresville, NC) (13.0 points, 4.3 rebounds, 2.7 assists, 6 3FGs), along with senior guard Ryan Clements (Conyers, GA) (10.3 points, 4.0 rebounds, 3.3 assists). H-SC is shooting 47% (86-185) from the field, including 33% (21-63) on three-point field goals, and 73% (43-59) at the free throw line. The Tigers average 78.7 points, and allow 69.3 points, for a +9.3 scoring margin.

Scouting No. 1 Randolph-Macon
The defending NCAA Division III National Champion Yellow Jackets, ranked No. 1 in the D3hoops.com Preseason Top 25, are coached by eighth-year head coach Josh Merkel. R-MC lost its most recent game at Mary Washington, 58-52, on Nov. 16. The Yellow Jackets have won 48-straight home games since 2017-18, the longest current streak in Division III. R-MC has been led this season by senior All-American forward Miles Mallory, averaging 15.7 points and 9.7 rebounds, followed closely by junior guard Will Coble (15.0 points, 3.7 rebounds, 11 3FGs) and freshman guard Keishawn Pulley Jr. (15.0 points, 3.0 rebounds, 7 3FGs). The Yellow Jackets shoot 40% (73-181) from the field, including 28% (21-75) on three-pointers, and 71% (36-51) at the line; scoring 67.7 points, and yielding 61.7 points, for a +6.0 scoring margin.

Series History (Since 1956)
H-SC and R-MC are playing for the 156th time since 1956. The Yellow Jackets lead the series, 100-55, though their advantage as members of the ODAC since 1989 is closer at 48-31. R-MC has won 10-straight games between the two schools. The last win in the series by the Tigers was a 63-56 home victory on February 1, 2017.

Double-Double Man
Davidson Hubbard has posted two double-doubles in three games to begin the campaign. He scored 12 points, adding 10 rebounds at Greensboro (NC) on Nov. 8, making 6-8 field goals. Hubbard had game-highs of 21 points and 10 rebounds versus Alvernia (PA) on Nov. 11 (8-15 FGs, 1-2 3FGs, 4-4 FTs), adding a career-high three blocks. Davidson now has five career double-doubles in 32 career games at H-SC.

I Can Do That Too
Junior guard/forward Josiah Hardy (Ashburn) scored a team-high 13 points and grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds at Greensboro (NC) on Nov. 8 (6-13 FGs, 1-2 FTs) for his second career double-double in 32 career games at H-SC.

Mr. Consistent
Adam Brazil has scored in double-figures in each of the first three games, including 11 points at Greensboro (NC) on Nov. 8, 11 points versus Alvernia (PA) on Nov. 11 and a season-high 17 points at Franklin & Marshall (PA) on Nov. 12. He now has 15 career double-figure scoring games in 33 career games at H-SC.

Chasing 1,000 Career Points
Ryan Clements is seeking to become the first Tiger to surpass the magical 1,000 career point plateau since 2016 (Mike Murray, 1,178). He entered this season with 767 career points in 58 career games, needing to average approximately nine points per game. Clements' career scoring average through three seasons is 13.2. Ryan would become the 44th 1,000-point scorer at H-SC.

2022-23 Team Captains
Leading the Tigers are senior forward Miles Harris (Virginia Beach) and senior guard Chase Turner (Virginia Beach), along with Adam Brazil. Turner is serving in the leadership role for his second season, while Harris and Brazil are first-year captains. Chase is the son of Samuel and Demia Turner and is majoring in government with a minor in leadership in the public interest. Miles is the son of Randy Harris and Corey Bacs and is majoring in economics and business. Adam is the son of Mark and Kristen Brazil and is majoring in English.

From H-SC To Division I Head Coach (X3)
H-SC currently has three former basketball team members and graduates of the College that are serving as NCAA Division I head coaches. Russell Turner '92 is in his 13th year at UC Irvine ... Ryan Odom '96 is in his second season at Utah State and his seventh season as a DI head coach (UMBC) ... Griff Aldrich '96 is in his fifth year at Longwood. Entering this season, Turner was 242-158 at UCI ... Odom was 115-76 overall, including 18-16 at USU and 97-60 over five years at UMBC ... Aldrich was 68-60 at Longwood.
