Hampden-Sydney Welcomes Washington and Lee In Home Opener On Sunday At 2 p.m.

 Hampden-Sydney College welcomes Washington and Lee University in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) basketball action on Sunday afternoon, November 27, at 2 p.m. in S. Douglas Fleet Gymnasium at Kirby Field House. It's the first home game, and the first ODAC contest of the season for the Tigers, who are 2-3 overall, 0-0 in the ODAC, while W&L is 4-1 overall, 0-0 in the ODAC. The game can be heard locally on WVHL Radio, Kickin' Country 92.9 FM, and will also be available worldwide on the Internet at wvhl.net or via the TuneIn Radio App, while available to watch as well on the Tiger Sports Network live video stream at hscathletics.com, pregame airing at 1:30 p.m.

Head Coach Caleb Kimbrough
H-SC is led by the fourth-year head coach who took over the program on April 4, 2019. The former head coach at Huntingdon (AL) College from 2016-19, Kimbrough is the 19th head coach in the 113-year history of the storied Hampden-Sydney program. He is no stranger to the ODAC, having played four years at Guilford (NC) College and coached six years with the Quakers, and one year at Washington and Lee. Caleb is 32-31 overall at the College, including 17-19 in ODAC games.

Scouting Hampden-Sydney
The Tigers have dropped two-straight contests, including their most recent game at Mary Washington, 79-66, on Nov. 22. H-SC has three players averaging in double figures among eight playing at least 11 minutes per game. Junior forward Davidson Hubbard (Charlotte, NC) leads the team with his 13.4 points and 8.6 rebounds, followed by junior guard DJ Wright (Greensboro, GA) (11.8 points, 13 3FGs), along with senior guard Ryan Clements (Conyers, GA) (10.4 points, 3.6 rebounds, 2.6 assists). The Tigers are shooting 45% (130-289) from the field, including 35% (38-109) on three-point field goals, and 71% (63-89) at the free throw line. H-SC averages 72.2 points, and allow 69.6 points, for a +2.6 scoring margin.

Scouting Washington and Lee
The Generals are coached by sixth-year head coach Chris McHugh, assisted by Trey Livingston, who served as an assistant at H-SC last season. W&L has won two-straight contests, including its most recent game at Southern Virginia, 82-59, on Nov. 22. The Generals have five players averaging in double figures, led by junior forward Robert DiSibio, averaging 20.4 points and 7.2 rebounds, followed by junior forward Jack d'Entremont (14.8 points, 11.2 rebounds), senior guard Sam Wise (11.0 point, 7.4 rebounds, 6.0 assists), senior guard Richie Manigault (11.0 points) and senior guard Jack Lewis (10.6 points). W&L shoots 46% from the field, including 36% on three-pointers, and 77% at the line; scoring 85.0 points, and yielding 76.8 points, for a +8.2 scoring margin.

Series History
H-SC leads the all-time series between the two schools, 79-55. W&L, however, has won six-straight and eight of the last 10 games in the series ... including a 79-74 home win by the Generals last January 8, 2022 in Lexington.

Double-Double Man
Davidson Hubbard has posted three double-doubles in five games to begin the campaign. He scored 12 points, adding 10 rebounds at Greensboro (NC) on Nov. 8, making 6-8 field goals. Hubbard had game-highs of 21 points and 10 rebounds versus Alvernia (PA) on Nov. 11 (8-15 FGs, 1-2 3FGs, 4-4 FTs), adding a career-high three blocks. He equaled his career-high with 22 points, adding a season-high 11 rebounds at Mary Washington on Nov. 22. Davidson now has six career double-doubles in 34 career games at H-SC.

I Can Do That Too
Junior guard/forward Josiah Hardy (Ashburn) scored a team-high 13 points and grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds at Greensboro (NC) on Nov. 8 (6-13 FGs, 1-2 FTs) for his second career double-double in 34 career games at H-SC.

Instant Offense Off The Bench
DJ Wright has scored in double-figures in three of five games off the bench, including a season-high 21 points (5-8 3FGs) in 17 minutes at Mary Washington on Nov. 22. He scored a team-high 17 points (5-7 3FGs) in 20 minutes at No. 1 Randolph-Macon on Nov. 19, and had a team-high 13 points in 15 minutes at Greensboro (NC) on Nov. 8. He now has 12 career double-figure scoring games in 34 career games at H-SC.

Chasing 1,000 Career Points
Ryan Clements is seeking to become the first Tiger to surpass the magical 1,000 career point plateau since 2016 (Mike Murray, 1,178). He entered this season with 767 career points in 58 career games, needing to average approximately nine points per game. Clements' career scoring average through three seasons is 13.2, and he is currently averaging 10.4 points through five games. Ryan would become the 44th 1,000-point scorer at H-SC.

2022-23 Team Captains
Leading the Tigers are senior forward Miles Harris (Virginia Beach) and senior guard Chase Turner (Virginia Beach), along with junior guard Adam Brazil (Mooresville, NC). Turner is serving in the leadership role for his second season, while Harris and Brazil are first-year captains. Chase is the son of Samuel and Demia Turner and is majoring in government with a minor in leadership in the public interest. Miles is the son of Randy Harris and Corey Bacs and is majoring in economics and business. Adam is the son of Mark and Kristen Brazil and is majoring in English.

Roster Breakdown
H-SC features 21 student-athletes from six different states and the District of Columbia. Leading the way with the most Tigers is North Carolina with six, followed by Virginia (4), Georgia (4) and Tennessee (4), along with Florida (1), Maryland (1) and D.C. (1).

From H-SC To Division I Head Coach (X3)
H-SC currently has three former basketball team members and graduates of the College that are serving as NCAA Division I head coaches. Russell Turner '92 is in his 13th year at UC Irvine ... Ryan Odom '96 is in his second season at Utah State and his seventh season as a DI head coach (UMBC) ... Griff Aldrich '96 is in his fifth year at Longwood. Entering this season, Turner was 242-158 at UCI ... Odom was 115-76 overall, including 18-16 at USU and 97-60 over five years at UMBC ... Aldrich was 68-60 at Longwood.
